SAM unlock method works like a magic. It unlocks the iPhone 4 in no time without paying a single penny. Why buy a Gevey sim or R-SIM IV when you can get unlock for free? If you couldn't unlock your iPhone 4 using previous method, you should be trying this method. It's more easy and takes less than five minutes. And before you ask, Yes, it also unlocks baseband 4.11.08 and 4.12.01.
Developer behind SAM tool has updated the tweak in accordance to make the unlock much easier. Now you don't require to connect your iPhone with computer and use iTunes for unlocking. You don't even need the original SIM card. Just Follow the steps below:
UPDATE: Apple has fixed their activation servers and this process no longer works. That's sad.
Step 1: Remove sim card from your phone and install SAM. I guess you already have SAM installed. If so, just open up Cydia and update it.
Step 2: Now insert the SIM card, open up SAMprefs and go to Utilities.
Step 3: Tap on Attempt Activation and wait for your device to respring.
After a successful respring, your iPhone will get unlocked for sure.
If you receive an error on Step 3 that you need original SIMID bla bla bla . . perform the following steps:
Step 1: Remove sim card from your iPhone.
Step 2: Download iFile from Cydia. If you already have that, skip this step.
Step 3: Using iFile, navigate to /var/root/Library. Click Edit found at the top right corner of the screen. Select lockdown and then click the zip button to create backup of the folder.

A backup zip file will be created at the bottom. Now delete the Lockdown folder.

Step 5: Power off your iPhone by holding down the power button for 4-5 seconds and then 'slide to power off'.
Step 6: Now turn it on following by inserting your unofficial sim card.
Step 7: Open up SAMprefs. Go to utilities and tap on Attemp Activation and wait till your iPhone resprings.
Step 8: There is no step 8 but to see your iPhone getting the service from unofficial sim card. Enjoy.

If it is not working for you travis, you iPhone's IMEI might be blacklisted...I have tried this on 3 different iphones and it worked!
Unlock dont worker for mee too ... need original SIMID error ... and dont found the plist file in preferences with iFile make me crazy ... :\
@person above...you won't find plist file until the sam is deactivated...Just go to UTILITIES and REvert Lockdown to stock..then Deactivate iphone...and then go back and Select method >> Carrier by country and go back and then select your country and carrier..now you should find plist file using ifile..good luck

I think that factory unlocking is better than SAM unlock. Especially if your phone is locked to AT&T USA.
