Jailbreak iOS 5.1 iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad 1, iPod Touch 3G, 4G using Redsn0w

Just after the release of iOS 5.1, iPhone Dev-Team in no time have come up with 5.1 jailbreak for all A4 devices i,e iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad 1, iPod Touch 3G and iPod Touch 4G. Please note that this jailbreak is not for iPad 2 or iPhone 4S.

Notes from iPhone dev team:

• This is a *tethered* 5.1 jailbreak for non-A5 devices. You’ll need to use redsn0w to “Just Boot” your device every time it power cycles, otherwise jailbreak apps won’t work (neither will Safari).

• If you use ultrasn0w for your carrier unlock, be sure to use a custom IPSW to get to 5.1 first! Don’t ever restore to a stock Apple IPSW! Use redsn0w’s “Custom IPSW” button to create a NO_BB_* version of the 5.1 IPSW and restore to that instead of the stock one. (That option is available only to 3GS and iPhone4-GSM owners.)ultrasn0w itself will be updated for 5.1 in the next few days (same baseband support, not 5.1’s baseband).

• If you’re lucky enough to have an old-bootrom 3GS, this jailbreak is actually untethered (redsn0w will figure that part out automatically).

• While we were at it, we added @pod2g’s steaks4uce exploit to support MC models of the iPod touch 2G (whose last firmware was 4.2.1). So now redsn0w will auto-detect and jailbreak all versions of that older device.

• iBooks won’t work until a future update of redsn0w

How to jailbreak iOS 5.1 on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad 1, iPod Touch 3G, 4G using Redsn0w 0.9.10b6

Things you need:
1. Update your device to iOS 5.1 [Warning: If your device rely on unlock, DONOT directly update from iTunes as your devices' baseband will also get upgraded and you won't be able to unlock it. Cook a custom firmware using redsn0w and then restore it]
2. Download iTunes 10.6 from itunes.apple.com
3. Download Redsn0w 09.10b6 for Windows or Mac.

Once you are all set, run Redsn0w 0.0.10b6 and click on Jailbreak.

Now follow the on-screen instructions to put your device into DFU mode. After that, check Cydia from the options menu and click next. Redsn0w will now start jailbreaking process. At this stage the whole process is automated. After 2-3 minutes Redsn0w will tell you that the rest of the process is taking place on your device. You will now see a bunch of code running on your device. After that  your device will be rebooted and you will see Apple logo on the screen. Since this is tethered jailbreak, you will need to boot it tethered or it will keep stuck on Apple logo.

Run Redsn0w once again and go to Extras >> Just Boot

Follow the on-screen instructions to put your device into DFU mode. Wait for redsn0w to do it's task and voila! Congratulations! you are now running tethered-jailbroken iOS 5.1 :p
